When it comes to extravagance, no one does it quite like the French. And nowhere is that more apparent than at the Palace of Versailles—a place so opulent, it feels like stepping into another era entirely.
I’ve always been fascinated by French history (and maybe a little obsessed with Marie Antoinette), so finally making the trip to Versailles felt long overdue. The golden gates, the sprawling gardens, the Hall of Mirrors—it’s all exactly as grand as you imagine it to be, and then some.

🌿 Garden Goals: Exploring the Palace Grounds
The palace itself is incredible, but I was most excited about the gardens and the Petit Trianon. The grounds are enormous—truly—so if you’re planning to explore, book a golf cart. Trust me, your feet will thank you.
The Petit Trianon, once Marie Antoinette’s private retreat, is pure neoclassical beauty. From the curving staircase to her quiet chambers, every corner feels like a page from a royal diary. It’s no wonder she sought refuge here.

🥂 Champagne + Cake = A Very Versailles Lunch
After a few hours of garden-hopping, we stopped for a late lunch at La Flottille, a charming restaurant near the Grand Canal. It’s been around since 1895 and serves as a cozy, picturesque stop during your palace adventure.
We ordered a bottle of champagne and a plate of pastries while quoting Marie’s most infamous line:
“Let them eat cake.”
And yes, we did exactly that—with absolutely no regrets.

🛏️ Where to Stay: Le Louis Versailles Château
While many choose to visit Versailles as a day trip from Paris, I recommend spending a few nights. I stayed at Le Louis Versailles Château, a boutique hotel just steps from the palace gates. Beautiful, comfortable, and perfectly located—it felt like a continuation of the royal treatment.

🧺 A Sunday Market & Slower Pace
One unexpected gem? Versailles’ Sunday market. Local vendors, fresh produce, flowers, baked goods—it was a delightful way to experience the town outside of its royal roots. The energy was calm, the people kind, and everything felt slower, softer, and more French.
Every time I’m in France, it feels like slipping into a past life I once lived. Versailles only deepened that feeling. The history, the architecture, the way of life—it all pulled me in.
So whether you’re into lavish palaces, garden strolls, or just want a pastry with a view, Versailles is worth every moment. I already know I’ll be back.
xoxo
