Fiji: Overwater Bliss, Floating Pizzas, and Orchid Magic

 Vinaka for the memories, Fiji!

When planning my trip to New Zealand in late 2022, I figured—why not make a detour to Fiji? I’d always dreamed of visiting, and with a few days to spare, I booked myself a stopover in paradise. Fiji had long been high on my travel wishlist, and let me tell you, it lived up to the dream.

With limited time, I made one very solid decision: I stayed at the Marriott Momi Bay Resort and splurged on an overwater bungalow. Because life’s short, and sometimes you just need to live like you’re on a honeymoon—even if you’re traveling solo.

☀️ Welcome to Momi Bay

From the second I stepped into the resort, I felt completely at ease. The hospitality was top-tier, the kind where everyone greets you by name and nothing feels like too much to ask. Knowing I’d be arriving at the hotel before 8 a.m., I planned ahead: booked a massage, claimed my complimentary breakfast, and parked myself poolside with a cocktail in hand while I waited for my bungalow to be ready.

By the time I got the call that my room was ready, I’d already slipped into full vacation mode. A quick golf cart ride later, I was settled into my dream bungalow, sunbathing on the deck and diving straight into the calm, crystal-clear bay right off my patio. Champagne from the front desk showed up shortly after—10/10 service.

The next few days were pure bliss. I read books, ordered room service, floated in the water, and alternated between naps and swims like it was a professional sport.

🌊 Cloud 9: Floating Paradise

With only one full day to explore beyond the resort, I followed a friend’s tip and booked a day at Cloud 9—a two-level floating bar and pizzeria surrounded by the bluest water I’ve ever seen.

It was an absolute dream. I snorkeled, sunbathed, and jumped off the top deck more times than I could count. I met travelers from all over the world, danced under the sun, and devoured fresh wood-fired pizza. The whole vibe was carefree and joyful—like a beach club in the middle of the ocean. I could have stayed on Cloud 9 forever, and honestly, I’m still trying to figure out how to make that happen.

🌺 Garden of the Sleeping Giant

On my last day, I visited the Garden of the Sleeping Giant—the perfect way to end the trip on a calm and peaceful note. If you’re a plant lover, this place is straight-up magic. Located at the base of the mountain it’s named after, the garden is home to over 2,000 varieties of orchids, lush lily ponds, and shady boardwalks wrapped in tropical greenery.

It’s quiet, beautiful, and filled with moments that make you slow down and take a breath. I loved every second of it.

Fiji checked every box: friendly locals, turquoise water, total relaxation, and just enough adventure. And if you’re worried about it being too “honeymoon-y,” let me just say—as a solo traveler, I felt completely at ease and totally pampered. There’s something really special about this island and its people. Vinaka, Fiji. I’ll be back—maybe with someone next time, maybe not. Either way, I know I’ll love it just the same.

xoxo
